Kunel Gaur
b 1980 New Delhi, India, lives and works in Toronto, Canada
Kunel Gaur melds the utilitarian rigor of 90s functionalism with a stripped-down, minimalist ethos to channel a nostalgic futurism—where clarity becomes cryptic, and irony is woven into the fabric of directness. The deconstructed bricolages made of plexiglass, steel, wood, and oil paint distill complexity into stark simplicity, offering a layered interplay of form and content that teases the edges of meaning while grounding itself in a vision of what the future was once imagined to be. Selected solo exhibitions include Gagné Contemporary, Toronto, Canada; Method, Mumbai, India; and AGENC Colab, New Delhi, India. The exhibition, A Sense of Space, at ABRI MARS is his first showing in New York.
